Org. Setting and Reporting

These positions are located in the various Branches of ELI. Statistics  Interns typically report to the head of a unit or to a Statistician. The CxO internship is for  two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.


The Statistics Interns will be responsible for the following duties in environment, energy or industrial statistics: 
  • Assists in designing, organizing, planning and managing the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of environment, energy or industrial statistics. 
  • Assists in developing, implementing and managing databases for environment, energy or industrial statistics. 
  • Assists in training and technical support on data collection programmes, country practices and other related information in environment, energy or industrial statistics. 
  • Assists in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research in environment, energy or industrial statistics. 
  • Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports in environment, energy or industrial statistics. 
  • Assists in the organization of seminars, working groups and expert meetings in environment, energy or industrial statistics. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The intern is expected to: 
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter; and 
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

To qualify for an internship with the Executive Leadership Institute, the following conditions must be met: 
  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: 
    • (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or 
    • (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or 
    • (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined In (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. 
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme. Knowledge and experience in the concept of statistics, mathematic, economics, demography, environmental engineering, electronic engineering, computer science, or related area is an advantage.
