Position Summary

The Area VP, Growth and Development is responsible for driving and leading the development and growth of Executive Leadership Institute within a targeted business unit. This position oversees all operational chapter activity inclusive of board/volunteer development, special events/fundraising, communications, team leadership/collaboration and administration.

Enhance unit excellence by establishing benchmarks, timelines, and resources needed to achieve strategic goals, proactively recommending and driving improvements as necessary; set standards for accountability and measurements of success.

Qualifications Required:

  • College graduate
  • Requires significant travel in specific markets
  • 10-15 years organizational experience in an executive, senior management or leadership capacity
  • Prior experience managing at the regional level, managing staff remotely and working with multiple boards
  • A proven track record of success in fundraising, major gifts and special events
  • Knowledgeable about walk and endurance programs
  • Proven and applicable skills in planning, budgeting, volunteer and staff development
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Thorough understanding of project management; able to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines and goals
  • A consummate team player with a flexible and creative approach
  • Excellent communication and coalition building skills with an ability to balance, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Board Development

  • Maintain positive relationships with leaders in the philanthropic community
  • Provide leadership to help volunteers align chapter’s goals and objectives with the national strategic plan
  • In conjunction with the Executive Director and Board, recruit high level volunteers


  • Ensure fundraising efforts maximize revenue growth through consistent implementation of best practices and effective collaboration among divisional staff and volunteers
  • Identify and implement creative strategies to meet fundraising goals through special events, individual and foundation gifts, 3rd party events, workplace giving and other chapter activities.
  • Responsible for the research, identification, cultivation and stewardship of donor prospects and the collaboration with the national major gift team
  • Work in collaboration with Take Steps and Team Challenge to ensure financial success.

Staff Management

  • Be creative, skillful, and professional, and require a high level of performance by Lead Chapter Staff.       Provide motivation, guidance and a positive work ethic. Encourage teamwork; acknowledge enthusiasm and success.
  • Ensure that the Chapter Lead Staff collaborate with the national managers for Education & Support, Business Development, Team Challenge, Take Steps and Special Events
  • Recruit, select, train, develop and supervise staff, including performance planning/salary reviews to Chapter Executive Directors.       Coach and mentor Chapter Executive Director’s
  • In the absence of chapter leadership work with National Interim Chapter Director to ensure seamless transition

Strategic Leadership

  • In conjunction with the EVP, Develop operational plans and budgets for all chapter’s within the region
  • Work as a productive member of the Executive Team, participating in and contributing to the development of the overall Executive Leadership Institute’s strategic agenda.
  • Keep abreast of all current National Office activities and communicate those throughout the region
  • Responsible for the mentorship and professional development of lead chapter staff which would cultivate a succession plan
  • Work with other AVP’s to ensure chapter consistency among all regions

Community Awareness

  • Serve as a professional spokesperson by partnering with media outlets and cultivating relationships to maximize awareness of the Executive Leadership Institute’s brand.
  • Support and guide chapters in developing External Awareness committee and plans.
