Dr. Joel Dobbs

Joel H. Dobbs is Executive in Residence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Collat School of Business where he also directs the school’s Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, teaches, and works with entrepreneurs within the UAB environment and the greater Birmingham business community to help them develop and grow their businesses. In addition, he serves as Director of Commercialization Initiatives for UAB’s Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He is also CEO and President of The Compass Talent Management Group LLC, a consulting firm that assists organizations with the identification and development of key talent and with designing organizational strategies and structures to maximize their ability to compete in the business worlds of today and tomorrow.

Joel Dobbs is an experienced life sciences executive with over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He has served in a variety of senior leadership roles in information technology as well as general management, academia and consulting. He has extensive experience and exceptional success in the conceptualization, planning, development, implementation and management of innovative information management technologies, solutions and services to meet mission-critical business requirements of high-profile global pharmaceutical enterprises. Joel has served as a high-performance member of the top-tier executive teams of dynamic organizations in startup, rapid-growth, turnaround, merger, integration and change phases. He is a visionary leader with a big-picture perspective, detail orientation, high-caliber management qualifications, innate business acumen, and sound judgment. 
Most recently Joel was Vice President, Information Technology at Eisai Inc., the US unit of Eisai, a $6B global pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo Japan. Prior to this role he served as VP of Information Technology, Data Management and Business Re-Engineering at Eisai Medical Research, the global clinical development arm of Eisai. He spent two years as Executive in Residence and Program Director of the Pharmaceutical Management Program at Stevens Institute of Technology and as a consultant to numerous pharmaceutical, biotechnology and software companies. He also served as Vice-President, Research Information Services and Global IT Strategy and Compliance for Schering-Plough Corporation. In this capacity, he was responsible for all information technology for the Schering Plough Research Institute as well as for strategy and IT regulatory compliance globally. Before joining Schering-Plough Joel spent 12 years with Glaxo Inc. in various management and executive positions in regulatory affairs, medical services and information services. He also spent one year with Glaxo Wellcome as Worldwide Director, Information Management and Analysis and has also served as a professor of pharmacy at Samford University and as Vice President and a Managing Partner for Pharmacy Specialties, Inc., a pharmacy management-consulting firm.

Joel is the author of numerous scientific and technical publications, including chapters in five books, and is a frequent speaker at industry-related seminars and conferences. He served on the Compaq Computer Corporation Pharmaceutical Advisory Board, the Digital Equipment Corporation Pharmaceutical Advisory Board, the PhRMA / FDA Information Management Working Group, the PhRMA CIO Forum, the PMA Information Management Steering Committee, the Documentum Advisory Council, and the PMA Safety Surveillance Committee. He represented the pharmaceutical industry on the steering committee for the Industry Coalition on Part 11 which worked with the FDA to successfully revise the guidance for compliance with this regulation. 
Joel is past chair of PhRMA’s Information Management Policy and Coordinating Committee and past chair of the Pharmaceutical Research Information Executive Forum. He serves on the Boards of several non-profit organizations and has previously served on the editorial boards of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy, the Drug Information Journal, and Applied Clinical Trials.

Dr. Dobbs received a BS in pharmacy from Samford University, a Master of Public Health from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Tennessee. He has completed executive programs at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and MIT. He served as a consultant to numerous organizations including some of the world’s largest software companies and several small to midsize software, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and is a member of the board of directors of New Century Pharmaceuticals.

Teena Piccione

AVP, Big Data Solutions Architecture, AT&T

Teena Piccione began her technical career as an international consultant, and joined BellSouth Long Distance in 1999 to spearhead a joint venture between BellSouth and Qwest. 

She was soon assigned to develop and lead the Program Development Office, and she continued to manage and lead teams and programs through 2007. She became Chief Staff in IT for AT&T in 2008, managing complex projects and leading her organization to 93 percent participation in United Way giving. She became Executive Director of IT in 2012, responsible for release management, front-door processes and business continuity.

In 2013, she was appointed Executive Director for Big Data at AT&T – responsible for overall business operations, program and project management and technical sales support. She became AVP solutions architecture in 2014, with responsibility for the solutions architecture groups working with external customers to help companies understand the T on T Big Data story and the value of AT&T working with them.

Teena is highly energetic and loves classical music, hiking and spending time with her family. She serves as Executive Advisor for the Master of Science in Buisness Analytics program at the University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. She has previously served on a public school board and as Director of Communication for Women of AT&T. She is married and the proud mother of two teenage girls.

Dr. Hiten Ghosh

Dr. Hiten Ghosh has a distinguished career of   life-long accomplishment in ICT industry. He received B.Tech in 1958 at the top of his class in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) the premier school of higher technology in India. He completed MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1961 on University Fellowship from University of Illinois, Urbana, IL.

He joined in 1962 the design of advanced Computer circuits department of IBM which nominated him as the outstanding young Electrical engineer for IEEE ETA KAPPA NU award in 1965, He received Corporate Outstanding Invention Award for Arsenic Emitter Transistor –highest performing device in the industry. Dr. Ghosh advanced thru the management ranks quickly to become the area manager of System Products Assurance where he started his Quality journey  with  a roadmap that transformed his area into such professional excellence that IBM made a video “ IBM  Product Assurance Story”.

In 1982, Dr. Ghosh became Corporate VP of Quality in Burroughs Corp   which later became Unisys Corp .He introduced Total Quality Management (TQM) and Phase Review process of design through product release and taught TQM to 10,000 managers and professionals around the world, receiving Corporate Management Excellence Award. Dr. Ghosh joined Hughes Network Systems in 1993 as VP and Chief Quality Officer and introduced Concurrent Engineering process to fast track product ideas to market. He implemented Six Sigma process of design and manufacturing for Direc TV Set Top Boxes which won top Quality rank for two concurrent years in Consumer Product Surveys by University Michigan, AnnArbor and earned Dr. Ghosh--- Hughes Corp. Quality Management Award.

Currently, Dr. Ghosh  is leading his company into Consumer Market thru Customer- Centric processes with Service Quality as a primary requirement. The market is responding   to this technology driven change to market driven quality processes on   Broadband   Internet Access with outstanding business growth.

Thus Quality policies and procedures are not only adding values to the back offices of design and manufacturing but also in the front offices in better qualification of Customer’s credit rating, bridging the gap between what customers expect and what services are planned to be delivered--billing, collection, customer support and service reliability.

In 2015, Dr. Ghosh received Lifetime Achievement Award , in recognition to his role in QA. As a full member of QUEST Forum in 2011, Dr. Ghosh took an active role in the TL-9000 process and system handbook development, specially adequacies of these metrices for Service operations and helped guide a new set of definitions for measurements including Customer retention. Dr. Ghosh was elected to the Board of   Executive Directors, Quest Forum, in 2012-2015 He has been on the Board of Directors, Tata-Burroughs Corp, India and currently on the Board of Advisors, IVY Capital Ventures, LLC, India.

Dr. Ghosh, in addition to promoting quality excellence on the job, is also actively involved in improving quality of life, specially for those at the bottom of the pyramid. He has been a founding member of a 300,000 strong global professional organization, PanIIT Alumni, and Co-president (2005-2006) of PanIIT Alumni-USA.
